How is Dental Bridge Treatment Performed?

You may face tooth loss due to different reasons at different periods of your life. Tooth deficiencies cause many problems in your life, from chewing problems to speech disorders, from negative changes in the mouth and surrounding tissues to loss of self-confidence.

Bridge treatment in dentistry; It can be defined as fixed restorations performed to eliminate the loss of one or more teeth. Bridge application, which is widely used today, can be performed using different materials. So what exactly is bridge treatment and how is it done?

How is a Bridge Tooth Made?

The bridge tooth is applied by taking support from neighboring teeth on both sides of the gap caused by tooth loss. By creating a kind of bridge between the neighboring abutment teeth, the gap left by the missing teeth is closed. The artificial tooth body that fills the gap is supported by the abutment teeth on both sides. Thus, the person gets teeth with a more functional and aesthetic appearance. With successful bridge dental treatments, all small or large gaps between the original teeth can be closed.

Types of Bridge Teeth

There are basically four different bridge tooth models.

Traditional bridgework is the most commonly used dental bridgework. It is applied when there are original teeth on both sides of the gap caused by the missing tooth. The original teeth are covered with crowns, and between these two crowns is an artificial body tooth or teeth to fill the gap. Traditional bridges are characterized by their durability and aesthetic appearance.

Cantilever bridges are used in cases where there is a single healthy original tooth next to the missing tooth gap. The method is the same as a traditional dental bridge.

Maryland bridges are bridge procedures that require two original teeth side by side on either side of the gap caused by missing teeth. This procedure, known as winged bridge treatment, is usually performed for the front teeth. The artificial tooth is attached to the invisible back surfaces of neighboring teeth by means of wings.

Implant-supported bridges are supported by a dental implant instead of the original tooth. Implant bridges stand out with their durability and longevity.

Different materials can be used when preparing a bridge tooth. Porcelain bridge tooth is the most commonly used bridge tooth application because it gives the closest appearance to the natural tooth. In addition to porcelain, silver, ceramic, gold, various materials mixed with porcelain can also be used in dental bridge treatment.

The lifespan of a bridge tooth increases in direct proportion to the protection of one’s oral and dental health. Alternative care practices such as regular brushing, flossing and the use of an interface brush prevent the formation of dental plaque. The formation of plaque, which causes tooth decay and the weakening and deterioration of the bridge support with this decay, must be prevented. The bridge teeth should be thoroughly cleaned on all sides and regular medical check-ups should not be neglected.
